This is a tutorial on creating, protecting, sub-zoning, and marketing space with Residence on the Rawcritics Build Server. Some details may vary from the default setting of the Residence mod for Minecraft. It assumes very little of the reader. There are other pages for the Residence Overview and Residence Commands.

Selecting a Space

To begin using Residence, you will need to equip the selection tool. On the Rawcritics Build Server, this tool is a wooden axe. As Residence protects a 3-dimensional space, you will need to select opposite corners of a rectangular prism. You will need to select two blocks to act as corners - a primary selection and a secondary selection. To select a primary selection point, lift-click on a solid block while wielding a wooden axe. To select a secondary selection point, similarly right-click. After each of these actions, a few lines of text should be displayed showing the coordinates selected.

Once this selection is achieved, the size of the space - as well as the cost to protect it - can be displayed using the command "/res select size".

Protecting a Selected Space

To protect a space with Residence, you will first need to select one as shown in the previous section. Upon selecting a space, you can claim it with the command "/res create [ResidenceName]". Your name will be case-sensitive, and should contain no spaces. Any period (.) placed in the name will be changed to an underscore (_).

  • Note: This will charge your iConomy account the cost of claiming the space, which is currently half the cost of the recurring bi-weekly cost of .005c / block.

Creating Subzones

Subzones can be created in a manner similar to creating standard Residence plots. Select an area within an area you own, then use the command "/res subzone <ResidenceName> [SubZoneName]". <ResidenceName> is allowed but typically not needed as you will likely be standing in the area. Again, subzone names are case-sensitive, and any periods (.) will be replaced with underscores (_). Your subzone can then be referred to as "ResidenceName.SubZoneName" in residence-specific commands.

Adding Other Players to Build Permissions

Players can be added to build permissions by using the build flag. This applies to both residences and subzones. Giving build permissions to a player in a subzone will not allow them access to the rest of the residence but giving build permissions to a player in the residence will give them building power in all subzones, unless specifically flagged out of those subzones.

Simply use the command "/res pset <ResidenceName> [player] build [true/false/remove]". When typing the command, you chose the residence, player, and whether they can or cannot build there. True allows the player to build on that land, while false takes their building power away. Remove takes any notes about a players build preference away and sets the player back into your residences general category of build powers (build flag is defaulted to false).

This method can also be used to set other permissions, using a flag like 'container' or 'use'.

Please note, this method is for adding specific players. For setting permissions for all players on the server, you use "/res set <ResidenceName> build [true/false/remove]" or for changing permissions from any group you have set up, it's "/res gset <ResidenceName> [group] build [true/false/remove]"

Marketing Plots

Players can gain money by leasing or selling plots of land which they are leasing from the server.

Leasing Plots

Plots can be rented for a recurring fee. Both the cost per period as well as the legnth of the period can be set by the land owner. The command for this is "/res market rentable [Main residence name].[subplot name] [rent cost] [# of days] [true/false]". The 'rent cost' is the amount of Crits a rentee pays to owner each time the rent is due. The '# of days' is the number of real-world days between rental fees being collected. 'true/false' refers to the automatic renewal of the leased property. If true, once the time of the lease expires, the property is no longer under the control of the player who leased it.

Selling Plots

Plots can be sold for a one-time fee. The command for this is "/res market sell [residence] [amount]". The residence will be put up for sale for 'amount' of Crits. Plots for sale can be taken off the market list with the command "/res market unsell [residence]".

Purchasing Plots

It is possible to see what plots are for sale across the entire map using the command "/res market list", although they may be difficult to read, as there is nothing which seperates the names of different properties. Information concerning specific properties on the market can be viewed with the command "/res market info [residence]", while the command "/res market buy [ residence" will actually purchase said property.
