Rock Songs of the 90s to Remember

Though an argument can be made about the quality of the music in the 80s, few can argue that, as a whole, the quality of the music in the 90s far surpassed the previous decades attempts.  Being a part of a generation that had grown up in the 90s, we are now used to a world where musical genres have exploded into all sorts of "subcategories".

It is hard to remember at times where we came from and what music helped define the people that we have become.  The hope here is to bridge the gap that many of us in my generation (myself included) may have forgotten, and remind us of the music that spoke to us through our most impressionable years.

RawCritics is proud to present 30 of the rock songs from the 90s that we can't forget:

Really brings me back

Great feature! Listening to each and every one of these songs brought me back to my time in high school and hanging out with friends. Some of the best times of my life happened in the 90s and I'm glad the rock music of that decade was so good. I will never forget it. Of course I'm still listening to a good % of the bands that made it out of the 90s such as Green Day, The Offspring, 311, etc...but songs like the ones on your list are wonderful to come across every now and then!

I think it might be a good idea to do a list of songs that aren't in the rock genre as well. I for one didn't get into rock music until around '94, and before that I was listening to stuff like C&C Music Factory, Bell Biv DeVoe, and Boyz II Men. I imagine there are a ton of songs that you can remember jamming out to before your taste for a certain genre was established. How about Ace of Base? Hahaha...

  Each has their place;

Each has their place; Greenday and Offspring included.  Speaking of which can't wait to see Offspring tonight at the Hard Rock!!

The Offspring

Nice dude!  I saw The Offspring last Friday night.  They were incredible!  Sounded fantastic and played all their hits.  Really great show!  My first time seeing them and have been a fan since '94.  They are starting to look a little old though...Dexter has a huge beer belly.  Sum 41 opened for them and were great as well.  Enjoy the show!!!

SCORE!

Songs I have long forgotten and song's I miss hearing on a daily basis! Crazy a** one hit wonders should never stop making hits. Even if they have one hit per album and end up breaking up after 5 albums, that's 5 awesome song that could have affected me/us. I only have 2 things to dispute with you Ben, the song Good by Better Than Ezra was much more popular than Long Lost. That and why do I not see any Our Lady Peace or Filter? 2 incredible bands that had a s**tload of hits in the 90's. Why focus so much on one hit wonders? I definitely love that you put Stranger By The Day by Shades Apart, I love that song.

While Good or even

While Good or even Desperately Wanting may have been more popular, they are definitely not more forgotten that Long Lost. Even Our Lady Peace is consistently played on the radio and Hey Man Nice Shot is a popular choice to fill Rock station's evening commutes. The above isn't so much about one hit wonders as it is music that you just haven't heard in a long...long...time.

Glad that you didn't include huge hits!

I'm happy to see that no "HUGE" hits were really included in this list.  Maybe with the exception of Soul Asylum and possibly Candlebox, no song was that really big hit.  You could have easily put songs like Everything You Want by Vertical Horizon, Possum Kingdom by The Toadies, or even Bound for the Floor by Local H, but I also think those songs were just way too much of a hit and even to this day still receive quite a bit of airplay.

To that point, I rarely hear

To that point, I rarely hear Vertical Horizon on the radio or the Toadies, depends on what part of the country you are in I guess (or world!)

The Toadies on Boston radio

Yeah, I'm in Boston myself and hear Possum Kingdom by The Toadies all the time.  If you flip around the stations enough, I guarantee you'll hear it.  Same with Vertical Horizon, you'll hear Everything You Want constantly on the Top 40 stations here.  To be honest, Boston has the worst radio stations anyway.  Thank goodness for satellite radio!

I definitely hear The

I definitely hear The Toadies, all the time near Boston. Weird.
