The graphic novel “Hush” re-envisioned for the big screen
Below is a summary of the plot for the graphic novel "Hush" which ran in 2002-2003. It was written by Jeph Loeb, penciled by Jim Lee, inked by Scott Williams and colored by Alex Sinclair. The story arc was altered to resemble something that could fit into the world Christopher Nolan has created. Everything RawCritics has described below is just a summary (Okay a long summary) of the events which we feel should appear in the next Batman Movie. I am sure he has his own ideas but nevertheless this is what we would like to see.
The Caped Crusader
We see Catwoman entering a luxurious penthouse deep within the heart of Gotham. She enters from a recently cut section of glass from the main window in the living room. The room is dark and the only light comes from the moon outside; her silhouette is barely visible in this light. Her actions are well planned and precise as if she is as comfortable with this room as in her own bedroom. She makes her way to the hidden wall safe, well aware of the security around the safe and what she has to do to crack it.
A few minutes later, with a successful smile, she removes the diamond encrusted jewels from the safe and Batman reveals himself for the first time. He emerges from a dark corner directly across the room and behind Catwoman. Without the slightest turn of her head she whispers, “Did you enjoy that?” ...in a highly sexual tone
Batman takes a step towards the opening in the glass in an attempt to block her only visual exit. In a sarcastic quality, “The first show was free, but the second will cost ya...”, eyeing the prize in her claws. A scuffle breaks outs (with no one attempting to really hurt the other. It is more of a dance between the two as each other attempts to gain the advantage) with more dialogue surfacing. (The audience should feel that these two have been doing this on and off for the past few months) Catwoman uses conversation and highly sexual references to make her escape out the window.
Batman uses his cape and takes off gliding after Catwoman. He's closes in on her, but Catwoman leaps from rooftop to rooftop always two steps ahead of him (she is familiar with the art of parkour). As Batman closes in for the capture, a bullet tears through his cape before the shot is heard and he is no longer able to stay airborne. He falls from high above the building all the way to the street below and is knocked unconscious. The fall from that height severely injures him. Catwoman looks back and sees that she has lost batman. Upset that the chase is over she says, “Poor…poor batman, you should have planned better."
A short amount of time passes with Batman’s unconsciousness body laying on the ground. Bruce has a flashback to the day that Tommy’s parents were in the car accident. Thomas Wayne was able to save Tommy’s mother, however the father was killed. Bruce tries to comfort Tommy, but young Mr. Elliot lashes out at Bruce: “You don’t know what it’s like to lose a parent”.
Alfred is suddenly aware of the situation and sends the newly designed batmobile to his aid. The people of Gotham start to realize that he is unconsciousness, and make their way over to Batman; timid and afraid. A crowd of people from all walks of life soon surround his body. It is quiet until one person spits at batman which unleashes the hatred and fury they now have for the Dark Knight. Do they truly believe he killed Harvey Dent?
Jim Gordon, out of breath and sweating, runs to the scene and yells to the crowd that the Batman is under arrest and that they should disperse in case Batman wakes up and becomes violent. The crowd fearing for their own safety begins to clear. The Batmobile arrives shortly and opens up. Jim grunts and groans as he lifts the body into the unmanned car and Alfred uses remote control to bring the Batmobile to the newly refurbished batcave complete with the must have medical center. Bruce continues to have flash backs of his childhood friend Tommy Elliott.

Alfred continues to labor around the clock to save Bruce's life, but there is little he can do with nothing more than his basic first aid training. He is able to determine Bruce is suffering from severe head trauma. He remembers that Thomas Elliot was a Neurosurgeon and Bruce’s childhood friend. Alfred makes the call to Gotham General Hospital to inform Thomas (Tommy) Elliot of the situation.
Alfred takes Bruce to Gotham City Hospital and Dr. Elliot manages to save his life. During the operation, Bruce becomes aware of Tommy and has another flash back where he recalls playing games of (chess) strategy with young Tommy Elliot, and remarking at Tommy’s keen analytical mind.
Alfred heads back to the Wayne Manor where he wrecked one of Bruce’s sports cars, and stages the story that Bruce injured himself while racing through the country side of Gotham. The operation proves to be successful. During his stay in the hospital, Bruce is visited by Selena and Fox where normal concerns come from those two, but Tommy (who checks up on his patient) remarks about his choice of profession, due to Bruce’s father saving his mother. He is thankful to have a chance to return the favor. As Fox leaves he comments on Bruce’s extreme sport addictions in reference to street racing (in that Batman needs to be careful).
Later Tommy releases Bruce from the hospital with a remarkable recovery thanks to his friend. Alfred comments about the graphite being up to specifications, making light of the situation.
That evening, Dr. Thomas Elliot visits Wayne Manor to check on his patient and lost childhood friend. Bruce is down in the Batcave and instructs Alfred to tell Thomas that he isn't home. Thomas has a clear look of disappointment in his face, but says to Alfred: "Tell Bruce I have four tickets to the opera. I'd love to catch up on old times." He continues jokingly: "It’s what the doctor ordered, if not he may just have to be remitted back into the hospital for observations.”
That evening, Batman scours the streets of Gotham in the Batmobile looking for signs of Catwoman (using his lead from the shot fired). Batman is able to track down Catwoman. While attempting to use forceful interrogation, Catwoman revolts and during the fight, Catwoman falls from the building but is saved by Batman. She thanks him for saving her and they share a passionate kiss. From across the street, the mysterious Hush watches everything that is transpiring (all that we really see is the trench coat; the face is too dark to make out anything). Catwoman makes her way back to her apartment where it’s revealed that she is Selena Kyle.
Flashbacks to Bruce and Thomas as young children; Bruce Wayne and Thomas Elliot witnessed an important event. They disobeyed Thomas Wayne's instructions to remain by the limousine. Bruce Wayne goes to the Opera House along with Tommy Elliot, Selina Kyle and Leslie Thompkins. During the opera, the main actor begins acting strangely until it is revealed to actually be a mob attempt aimed at abducting Bruce Wayne for ransom. The mob’s masked henchmen take control of the orchestra pit and begin firing on the audience. Bruce, Selina and Tommy are more concerned about the crowd's safety than their own. A crook tries to steal a pendant from around Tommy's neck – an important heirloom he's had since he was a child.
Bruce quickly ducks away only to re-emerge as Batman. While Batman intercepts mob leader, Catwoman shows up to the fight and targets an unknown assailant across the stage; but ultimately the thug shoots Catwoman. Batman races to Catwoman’s side as the thug makes an escape. Catwoman's wound is superficial and she chastises Batman for letting the goon in the trench coat get away. Batman runs outside, but the villain is nowhere to be found. Suddenly he hears several gun shots coming from a nearby alley. Running towards the sound of the gun he finds the trenched coat goon standing over the bleeding body of his friend Tommy Elliot. The blood begins to cover the pendent of his dead friend.
Batman flies into a rage and begins pummeling the goon. Words are muttered: "Stop", but Batman isn't listening to him. Images of his parents, Harvey Dent, Racheal Dawgs, and even Henri Ducard (a friend he failed to save) are invading his mind.
Catwoman, slowed by the bullet lodged in her shoulder, attempts to restrain Batman with her whip. She recognizes the look in the Dark Knight's eyes, and realizes that he plans on killing the goon. Batman swings about punching Catwoman in her wounded shoulder. The shock from the pain causes her to slump over.
Batman continues to wail on the goon until police commissioner James Gordon shows up behind him. He draws his weapon and fires two warning shots. He coaxes Batman away from the goon, reminding him that he is about to cross a line that can never be forgiven. Batman calms down then flees before we hear the sirens of Gotham PD and their inevitable arrival.
From a rooftop high above, Hush witnesses the event while flipping a scarred silver dollar in his hand. Talking to himself, he admits that the goon was actually innocent in the death of Tommy Elliot.
Funeral services are held for Doctor Thomas Elliot. Selina Kyle and Leslie Thompkins attend. Bruce Wayne speaks during the service, reciting one of his favorite poems. They make their way over to the graves of his parents.
Later, Bruce is back in the Batcave, pouring over all of the evidence associated to Tommy's murder. He deduces that the the goon is actually innocent, and that someone went out of their way to make Batman believe he was guilty. Alfred enters and shows concern over Bruce's well being. He gives Bruce a speech about losing friends.
Elsewhere, Harvey Dent garbed in a trench coat and bandages, springs the goon out of Arkham Asylum. Removing the bandages, he reveals that his face has been mostly healed leaving gruesome scarring that earned him the sobriquet, Two-Face. (At this point, people should start to believe that Harvey Dent was Hush)
Later, Batman meets Catwoman at the Gotham City Zoo (still hurt from the loss of Rachael; now his friend). Taking her into his confidence, he removes his cowl, revealing Bruce Wayne.
Elsewhere, Harvey Dent sneaks into the home of former police commissioner James Gordon. He tells Jim that the Batman will need his help in resolving the current string of crimes. He also tells Gordon that the gun used to kill Tommy Elliot was Jim's old pistol.
Batman and Catwoman are in the Batcave going through all of the computer equipment. Suddenly, Alfred enters and criticizes Batman for letting Catwoman in on his secret identity. Catwoman and Afred briefly clash, but Batman breaks it up. Frustrated, Catwoman borrows a bat-cycle and speeds off into the night. Afred’s behavior towards Catwoman turns out to be a staged act to determine whether Catwoman was worthy of Bruce's trust.
In the streets of Gotham, Catwoman encounters a junkie who is acting very strangely, and the two get into a brawl. It soon becomes apparent that the junkie is under the thrall of the Scarecrow’s fear toxin. Batman arrives on the scene and fights the Scarecrow. Their fight takes them to a small private cemetery. Batman beats the Scarecrow badly, and demands to know who has been manipulating so many of Gotham’s criminal minds.

Suddenly, a Batarang flies from out of nowhere, nicking the Scarecrow's face. Batman wheels around and sees Hush standing before him. Hush has captured Alfred and is holding his unconscious body.
Back at the Batcave, Batman finds an electronic relay device. This device was used to learn all of Batman's secrets, including his relationship with Catwoman. Batman learns that the person responsible for installing the device was his old friend, Harold Allnut. (the man responsible for the new cave and car; recommended by Fox)
Batman drives out to the Gotham City Bridge where he secretly meets with Harold, who is now standing upright and can speak. He confesses to planting the monitoring device, and explains that the man who hired him healed his physical deformities and even enabled him to speak. Harold is remorseful for betraying Bruce, and apologizes. Just as he is ready to reveal the name of the man who hired him, a shot rings out and Harold falls over, dead. Batman spins around to find Hush standing before him.
Batman cradles the dead body of Harold, his former aide. Hush is standing over them, guns still smoking. Batman still has no idea who Hush truly is. He attempts to launch himself into Hush with a flurry of blows, but Hush manages to keep a safe distance from him. Hush finally reveals himself to be Tommy Elliot.
As Hush, Tommy wants revenge on the Wayne family. Dr. Thomas Wayne had saved the life of his mother after a staged car accident. Elliot wanted his parents to die so that he could collect the inheritance. Jim Gordon and Harvey Dent arrive to give Batman back-up. Harvey shoots Hush two times in the chest, and Hush falls backwards into the bay. Gordon is forced to arrest Dent.
Although Hush seems to be gone, Batman is unsure how his secret was revealed. Batman at Gotham PD speaks with Jim Gordon who introduces him to a brilliant new private investigator Edward Nigma. During conversation Edwards informs his audience that he was dying of terminal cancer before he hooked up with Thomas Elliot (whom he met while researching his illness). Aware of Thomas' intent, he approaches him with the offer that the two should worked together against Batman. During the conversation Edward Nigma, being the narcissist he is, secretly lets Batman know he was the one figured out his identity.
After conferring with the Edward Nigma, Batman meets back up with Catwoman. She knows that it is impossible for her to continue a romance with Batman. He simply won't allow himself to fall in love. She walks away from him.

Not bad
But I would prefer The Black Hand as a villain. Hush was good stuff, I think it would make a far superior film to Dark Knight. However, after Morrison's last year of stories nothing else can compare right off.
