Evony MMO breaking child gambling barrier
Online MMO, Evony, is under recent criticism, in which opponents are claiming the browser based game, which allows you to buy in game money with real cash is allowing children to gamble online and is in clear violation of US laws against such practices.
According to the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006, which outlaws financial transactions involving the providers of online gambling service providers, purchasing Evony "cents" could be illegal. In addition the game has no rating or age recommendation that signals parental intervention.
Evony spokeperson, Jacob Boaxman had this to say, "Evony is not breaking any laws. We are a cutting edge MMO that is breaking the barriers of our predecessors. We don't have a rating because we don't need a rating. This is real life. The ability to trade real cash for in game cash is teaching our young about the joys of bartering. We are exposing them to the world that is, and not hiding it behind some protective shell."
