Activision praised for helping addicts; Brady Games upset
A first in the video game industry; Activision is being praised for it's latest announcement regarding its Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 addiction line. According to sources inside Activision, they are planning on launching the service by way of phone and internet starting November 11th in an effort to appease recent parental concerns.
A spokesperson for Activision had this to say: "We realize that with great power comes great responsibility. We know that we are on the verge of releasing the most addictive game ever created and we want our fans to know that they have an outlet. There is a real world that every gamer needs to pay attention to from time to time and it is in our best interest to support that. After all, we need them to come back."
The support team, which will consist of three people, will be ready to accept any troubled calls or emails under total anonymity. Addicts will be able to call in and vent about any frustrations they are having or issues in dealing with the line of separation between reality and fiction.
One of Activision's biggest critics on the move, Brady Games, who leads the industry in the publication of game guides, insists that the availability of such a service will be misused by the public.
"Obviously the general public isn't smart enough to use the services as intended. If these "addicts" are having a hard time differentiating between fictional situations and reality then you can bet that they would surely confuse a support line dedicated to their mental well-being with a game support hotline," notes a spokesperson for Brady Games, "They are going to have thousands of callers a day just calling in to ask how to get past a particular section of the game and it will waste the industry's time and money. Obviously they should leave that help to more qualified entities."
